Why is this eclipse so important?
This eclipse can be seen from some of the main cities of Spain, as Santiago de Compostela, Madrid, Alicante or Valencia. In addition, it will happen around 11.00 a.m., coinciding with break time in the most part of schools and high schools.
A public-opinion poll conducted by ASAAF-UCM during the 6th Fair of Science in Madrid pointed out the great lack of information and how, in previous eclipses, the labour of the Media and scientific circulation did not strike enough the population about the damages of wrong observation. For annular eclipses, protection must be better than in other kind of eclipses, because during the 4 minutes of annularity its tracking is almost constant and there’s no filter recommended over 3 minutes time of usage. For partial or total eclipses, observations are never taken in a so continuous way with solar filters.
As well, the importance of this eclipse relies on the fact that it is the only event in 200 years time visible from so many county capitals. And the next one in Europe is not until 2026.
